Abstract:

The present paper shows the results of applying an artificial neural network to three non-destructive magnetic methods including magnetic hysteresis loop (MHL), eddy current (EC), and magnetic flux leakage (MFL) techniques to determine mechanical features of plain carbon steels with unknown carbon contents subjected to tempering treatment. ادامه مطلب

Abstract:

Based on relationships between electromagnetic properties and microstructural changes in steel, the current paper describes the development of an electromagnetic technique to determine steel hardenability, non-destructively. Performing Jominy end-quench test, magnetic hysteresis loop and eddy current methods have been applied to SAE 4140 standard steel samples to explore applicability of the non-destructive techniques for determining hardenability. ادامه مطلب

Abstract:

The sensitivity of magnetic non-destructive methods to both chemical composition and microstructure has limited their potential application for determination of mechanical properties in plain carbon steels under conditions of varying carbon content and microstructure. ادامه مطلب

Abstract:

A nondestructive eddy current method has been used to characterize microstructural features of Hadfield steels subjected to various conditions of heat treatment. The heat treatment parameters including quenching media (furnace, air, and water) and tempering temperatures (in the range of 200–600°C) were varied to obtain different microstructures. ادامه مطلب

Abstract:

Variation in chemical composition is one the most important parameters that affects the microstructure and mechanical properties of powder metallurgical (PM) steel parts. Therefore, utilization of nondestructive methods to determine the chemical composition and microstructural/mechanical properties of a given PM steel sample could be a subject of importance. ادامه مطلب

Abstract:

The present paper aims to enhance the accuracy of surface hardness and case depth measurement of induction hardened steel parts using statistical modeling methods and electromagnetic nondestructive techniques. In this research, to create various hardened layers with different thicknesses, eight different conditions of induction hardening treatments have been performed on cylindrical AISI 1045 steel samples. ادامه مطلب

Abstract:

in this paper, a combination of non-destructive magnetic technique and artificial neural networks is introduced, firstly, to ensure that the heat treatment process applied to a given API X65 steel sample results in desired microstructure and mechanical properties and secondly, to determine thickness variation which may occurs as a result of corrosion effect. To evaluate the effects of microstructure/mechanical properties and thickness variations on magnetic parameters, the magnetic hysteresis loop method has been applied on API X65 steel specimens with the thicknesses of 1–4 mm, each subjected to four different heat-treating cycles (austenitised samples were cooled in furnace, air, oil and water). ادامه مطلب
